9th Grade – Steph After the Rejection

The next day Stephanie sat in class, Home Ec. A classmate slid in next to her. A cute blonde.

Why don’t I know her? I have seen her before.

“You know you’re cute.” blondie said.

“Thanks,” Stephanie said.

“People should date in their own class. You are not dating in your class.” blondie said as she moved closer to my face.

“I’m not?” Stephanie asked.

“Nope. But I can help you.”

“You can? How?” Stephanie asked.

“Meet me at the back of the school by the library after class.” blondie looked around to make sure no one heard her.

~

Stephanie had never walked around the school without the sidewalks. So this seemed wrong, seemed like sneaking around.

What if this is a cruel joke? What if I will get teased for falling for some cruel joke?

As she turned a corner, she saw blondie with a guy.

OMG he is very cute. OMG he is lettered. Smile. He is the cute guy in this school. The popular one.

“Hi.” Stephanie said.

He flashed a smile. Her heart melted.

“This is Shane. He’s a senior. Say Hi.”

Another smile. “Hi,” Shane said.

His voice sounded like sugar.

Blondie turned him around and lifted his jacket.

“Look at his backside. Delicious right.”

OMG. Now that is a tight butt.

Her hands really wanted to cup each cheek, to feel the warmth in her hands. He looked over his shoulder at her and caught her appreciating his goods. He twists out of blondie’s hold and took off his jacket. One step and he stood in front of her, so close.

“Would you like to wear my letter?” Shane asked.

He took it off and put it over her shoulders. As he did, he brushed one hand along her cheek. The only thing she could do was stare into his sharp blue eyes.

How did a hunk of a man find me? How did I get so lucky?

“Will you meet me in the senior parking lot for lunch tomorrow?”

She tried to answer, but her voice was lost. She nodded her head in response. She got another one of those marvelous smiles.

I’m going out with the most popular guy in school!

~

She fell into a new routine so she had time to walk to the senior hall to meet Shane at his locker. Her day was so much better when she got to see that smile of his, felt his hands hold hers.

“I have something for you.” He said.

“You do?” She can’t hold her excitement. She clasped her hands together and waited.

“Here, would you wear my class ring?”

Her mouth dropped open. She heard him laugh a little bit. He snapped her out of whatever trance she was in with a smooth touch to her cheek. Her eyes met his, those sharp blue eyes.

“Would you go to the prom with me?”

She opened her mouth to say yes, but no sound came out so she nodded. His hand moved from her cheek to the back of her neck. She watched his mouth as he leaned closer.

“Hey, no PDA.” She heard and we both jumped back.

Oh, I hate that rule right now. No public display of affection. I need a more private place.

“What are you doing tomorrow after school? Come see me practice.” He asked as if reading her mind for some place private.

“I will try to make it.” She said.

“By the way, please don’t lose my ring. My mom paid a lot of money for it.” He said over the ringing bell. The moment of magic was broken and reality sank in. She put the ring on her finger.

Well, how about my thumb then? OK, then on my necklace.

“I won’t. I promise.”

The next day passed quickly as she only thought seeing Shane  at practice. She almost ran to the gymnasium. She watched as the guys pushed their bodies to the limit. Heat filled her body as she watched the way Shane moved. As quickly as practice started, it was over. She leaf the building and waited on him.

“Hey, there you are. I didn’t think you came.” He said as he walked up to her.

“I saw you practice. Amazing.”

“Hey, do you have a ride a home?”

“Yeah, my mom is coming.”

“Can I wait with you?”

“Sure. What do you want to do while we wait?”

“Have you ever been kissed?”

“Yeah.”

He looked at her as though he didn’t believe it.

“Where?”

“On the cheek.”

“That doesn’t count.”

Before she could respond, he held her, lips pressed to hers. His touch was soft at first, then deepened as his tongue found hers. His hands tangled in her hair as he held her head. As quickly as it started, it ended. He pulled back to look at her face. She got the famous Shane smile. Her body responded in a way it had never done before. Her stomach did a flip flop and it showed all over her face. She heard him chuckle.

“See you tomorrow, beautiful.”
